MIXTURE OF YOUTH AND EXPERIENCE LEAD THE WAY:
The fifth round of Mullion's Winter league was played on Sunday with Ian Stanley and Ben Crowe prevailing with a prodigious 50 points in this betterball Stableford with drawn partner, writes club captain Ken Whittle.
Ian was by far the senior member of this pairing and was particularly pleased having really enjoyed the Spanish Night more than most the previous evening.
The two nearest scores were produced by Wilf Hutchinson and Neil Carpenter, who, together with Alan Nicholls and Denis Law must have thought their 44s were good enough.
None of this activity has altered the top order in the league.
Leading in Division 1 is Damian Hallett on 66. John Bailey is currently second on 65 with James Coventry on 60 in third.
Division 2 leader is Jim Alexander whose 67 is seriously in front of George Torrance with 58 and Steve Lieske with 57.
Next week there is a mixed competition and on March 17 is Captain's Charity Day.
The latter will be a four person Texas Scramble with prizes for best Juniors, best Ladies, best Seniors and best Men.
After the awards in the early evening we will be entertained by the award winning Helston School Jazz Orchestra.
All this is in aid of the Lizard Outreach Trust and Carleen Community Church Care Centre. We hope that relieving folks of £5. per head is not excessive for such superb music.
PRAA SANDS ROUND-UP:
Victor Debarros won Division Two and the Monthly Medal at Praa Sands on Sunday with an outstanding 55 net on the last nine holes from Keith Hosking.
Full Monthly Medal results: Div.One: 1/Paul Murrish 75 –15 =60, 2/Nigel Waters 70 –9 =61 (L9), 3/Alistair Rule 75 –14 =61 (L6), 4/Nick Watters 75 –14 =61. Div.Two~ 1/Victor Debarros 71 –16 =55 (L9), 2/Keith Hosking 73 –18 =55, 3/Mark Hatch 80 –23 =57 (L9), 4/Justin Dennington 73 –16 =57.
Anna Harry won the Ladies' Winter League – Bogey on Saturday with plus 2. Judy Thomas was second with plus 1, Carole Jones third with 2 down and Sue Harvey fourth with 3 down.
Linda Gale won the Ladies' 9-hole Stableford on Wednesday with 18 points. Ann Seabrook was second with 13 on countback from Judy Harris.
The Ladies play their Monthly Medal on Saturday and the Final of the Barry Mounter Trophy takes place on Sunday.
There is also a Four Ball Better Ball Stableford for those not involved with the final.
Next week, the Ladies play a 9-hole Stableford on Wednesday morning and the Ogres play the Bennett Cup 4 in the afternoon.
AMAZING GRACE:
There was a good turnout on Sunday for the Richard Burton Windows-sponsored February medal at Budock Vean Golf Club.
Conditions were very much improved following the frost of the previous week and all the greens were back in action.
This certainly suited Tony Grace as he carded an untouchable net 62. Tony hardly put a foot wrong with his driver behaving well allied to his fine short game, for which he is known, saw him win comfortably by four strokes from Mike O'Hara, who just pipped Stephen Penrose who also carded a net 66 on the countback.
Seven handicapper David Gudzij returned the best gross of 74 for a net 67 and fourth place overall. The back nine twos jackpot was shared by Des Sadler at the 11th and Rod Butler and Tony Ramsden at the 18th holes respectively.

CROWN-INN GLORY:
Result of the week in the West Cornwall Winter Pool League last week came from the Crown Inn in Division Three, when they won 7-2 against the Killigrew Inn who were the only remaining undefeated side in the league.
D Steward, Wayne Rogers, Treeve Sullivan, Tara Rogers and Adam Harvey all won for the Crown Inn.
Meanwhile back in Division One the 'mighty' Lizard FC A side jumped into second spot thanks to two big wins.
They defeated Helston RBL C 7-2 and then defeated them 9-0 in a rearranged game, these results moved them into a comfortable second spot and are only four points behind defending champions Wendron CC.
The other top three sides also had good wins, Wendron CC won 6-3 against the Bell Inn, Helston RBL A won 7-2 against Three Tuns B and Helston FC A won 6-3 against the White Hart B team.
Godolphin Club F have slightly dropped off the pace at the top but wins from Ray Fox, Mark Buchanan, Dave Fox and Paul Eddy helped them to a 5-4 win over the Rodney Inn A team last week.
The top two played in Division Two last week and Constantine SC A moved back to the top after a 7-2 win over Helston RBL D thanks to wins from Martin Cavanagh, Nathan Parnell, Ben Thomas and Darren Griffiths.
Paris A continued their up and down season losing 5-4 to Helston RFC B, they remain in third spot but are now 10 points off the top two. The Bell Inn B team continued their good season with a 6-3 win over Godolphin Club A and are in fourth spot with a game in hand.
Seven Stars A won 7-2 and inflicted further pain on the normally consistent Helston RBL B team who have only picked up nine points in the last five games.
The Crown Inn weren't the only surprise winners in Division Three last week as Mounts Bay B defeated leaders Helston FC C 6-3, Paul Houliston ended Dan Jenkin's 100 per cent record singles aggregate.
Godolphin Club D made sure it wasn't a hat-trick of upsets and took advantage of results around them by winning 7-2 against Lizard FC B.
Queens Arms B had a fine 6-3 win against Mullion FC.
Helston CC continue to stretch their lead in Division Four, they had a 6-3 win over one of their nearest rivals, White Hart E last week.
White Hart D had a 5-4 victory over Shooters B, singles wins coming from Ron Jane, Peter Tongue, Andrew Wooding and Ken Codling.
Red Lion A defeated their B team 7-2 and Helston RBL E had to win all three doubles to edge out the Gweek Inn B team 5-4.
The Wheel Inn have a five point lead in Division Five after an 8-1 victory over Helston FC Mingbats but the Five Pilchards equalled that result winning against the Angel Hotel A team.
The Cowshed Bar edged their local derby against Potters Bar B 5-4 and Dan Jeffers, Richard Penrose Matt Penrose, Thomas Penrose and Ben Coleman all won for the Queens Arms A team in their 6-3 win over the Godolphin Arms.
The team knockout draw is now on the website. All teams should have had a copy of the draw posted to them.

MINING LEAGUE 1:
Leaders and reigning Mining League champions, Illogan HI A, won 5-0 at home to Godolphin Club. STR Clinton kept up the pressure on them by also winning 5-0, away to Redruth British Rail A, writes Terry Kempe.
St Day (myself 39) got back to winning ways with a 3-2 home win over a new look Rack 'em Up.
Frame of the night resulted in a win for Rack 'em Up's new signing, Paul Wakeling, who defeated the much more experienced Carl Boundy.
Paul played well having made a good 23 break early on then potting a great black to seal the win! Not bad for a player who is normally a third division player! Breage's good run came to an end with a 3-2 defeat away to Playing Place A.
Illogan HI C had another great win, this time 5-0 at home to Playing Place B. This was their best win of the season so far. Darren Jenkin made a good 41 break and Malcolm Hoon won his first frame of the season.
Penponds lost ground on the top two although they still won 4-1 at home to Redruth British Rail B. Jake Stewart made breaks of 34 and 52 in his frame for Penponds.
DIVISION TWO:
St Rumons A won 4-1 at home to Feock. St Day A won by the same scoreline, 4-1 at home to their own B side.
Mike Johns beat veteran Peter Simmons on the black after being 20 points behind. Four Lanes had a great result in beating Lanner 4-1 at home. This was Lanner's first defeat in nine matches. Graham Vercoe beat Andrew Philipps for Lanner's only win.
Camborne Conservative won 3-2 at home to St Rumons B with wins for Alistair Gay, Kevin Selby and Steve Lovelock.
Paul Murphy played well to win his frame for St Rumons. Porthleven won 3-2 at home to Perranpoth GC.
There were four close frames in this match. Dean Williams beat D Mugford to earn his side the win. Radnor went down 3-2 at home to Penponds, S Fisher beat Phil Condy to complete the win.
DIVISION 3
Stithians A won the derby with their B side with a good 4-1 win. S Buckingham made a 29 break in beating S Pearce for the B side's only point. Camborne Conservative had a good 5-0 away win over Redruth British Rail A.
Illogan HI are now runaway leaders with another 5-0 home win, this time over Shooters. Stithians C went down 5-0 at home to Park Bottom although this could have been a much different result if Stithians could have pinched any of the four black ball frames in the match.
All five frames were won by less than 14 points. Penponds won 3-2 at home to Radnor. B Eathorne beat L Austin to earn his side the win.
