Helston Community College has once again obtained outstanding "A" level results across the board, improving on the high standards reached last year.

13% of students achieved the highest grade, 'A*', which is a significant rise from last year and over 60% of the entries have been graded 'A*', 'A' and 'B', that's 8% above national figures. This has led to the average grade per entry being midway between grade 'B' and grade 'C'.

The vast majority of students met their target grades and there were some superb individual performances, including:

Beth Kingston Biology  A*,  Chemistry  A*,  Mathematics  A*  (Studying Medicine at Oxford)

Richard Winder Chemistry  A*,  Mathematics  A*,  Further Maths  A,  History  B (Studying Chemistry at Imperial College, London)

Lottie Grant Fine Art  A*,  Biology  A,  English Literature  A  (Studying English at Exeter)

David Ferris Music Technology  A*,  English Language and Literature  A,  Music  A  (Studying Music at Birmingham Conservatoire)

Gavan Gardener Mathematics  A*,  Chemistry  A,  Physics  A,  Further Maths  B  (Taking a Gap Year)

Katrina Thomas Psychology  A*,  Photography  A,  Physical Education  A  (Studying Psychology at Plymouth)

Matthew Holyer Geology   A*,  Chemistry  A,  Physics A  (Studying Applied Geology at Exeter)

Eleanor Turnbull Photography A*, Textiles A* and BTEC Art,  Double Distinction (Studying Art  at St. Martins)

Headteacher Dr Pat McGovern says: "Once again we are delighted with the outstanding results gained by the students of the College. The average grade per entry is now almost a 'B', which is a remarkable achievement from a truly comprehensive post-16 college. The percentage of entries gaining A* grades shows a considerable increase on last year and is something to be very pleased about. We believe that the vast majority of university applicants from the College have made their offers and will take up a record number of places in September. Currently over 90 students have accepted places and this is likely to reach 100 in the near future.

He adds: "I would like to pay tribute to the dedicated hard work and commitment of all the staff who have ensured students have achieved at the highest levels. Recruitment to next year's post-16 courses looks really good and interviews are being held next week for remaining places."

Congratulations to everyone who took their A-levels this year.
