Countdown to the General Election – Local Candidates to Hold Debate in Helston
By Em_Williams | Tuesday, April 27, 2010, 14:20
There’s
just over a week to go until the General Election and the campaign trail is in
full swing. David Cameron, Gordon Brown and Nick Clegg are gearing up to take
part in their third and final live television debate this Thursday.
Closer to
home the local candidates vying for the St Ives constituency seat are set to do
the same in Helston. Environmental group Transition Helston has arranged a
similar style debate which is taking place at Helston Community College
at 7.30pm on Wednesday 28th April.
Taking part
will be:
Andrew
George (current Lib Dem MP)
Derek
Thomas (Conservative)
Michael
Faulkner (UK Independence)
Tim
Andrewes (Green)
Philippa
Latimer (Labour)
Simon Reed
(Mebyon Kernow)
Jonathan
Rogers (Cornish Democrats) isn’t able to take part.
Much like
the leaders debate the evening will include introductions, an address from each
candidate and questions from the audience. Topics they’ll be quizzed on include
the environment and the carbon footprint of the local area, as well as subjects
like out of town shopping and the effect it has on Helston town centre.
So if
you’ve yet to make your mind up who to vote for, or if you want to know where
each of them stand on issues close to your heart it’s worth heading along.
