Police in Helston have advised that as in previous years a number of traffic restrictions will apply for Flora Day which this year falls on Saturday 7th May 2011.
On Friday 6th May, in order for the fairground to operate safely, Porthleven Road will be closed from its junction with the A394 Penzance Road to the top of Penventon Hill. Traffic from Porthleven to Helston will be routed along Squires Lane. In addition, there will be a one-way system operating in Ratcliffe’s Lane for traffic from Helston to Porthleven. This system will also be in operation on Saturday 7th May from 6.30am to midnight.
On Saturday 7th May, Flora Day itself, roads along the dance route will be closed to traffic from 5.30am to 7.30pm The Police state that any vehicle that obstructs the route or is likely to cause a danger will be removed at the owner’s expense. Neither the Police, nor the Organisers wish to spoil the enjoyment of anyone’s day by having their car removed, so they ask that cars are not parked along the dance route on the night of Fri. 6th/Sat. 7th, or they ensure that their cars are removed before the restrictions come into force. This is in the interest of public safety and they ask for your co-operation in this matter, and appreciate the efforts made in allowing the day’s events to proceed smoothly.
