Get Ready to Rock at Helstonbury

It’s that time of year again! This weekend (16th – 18th July) is the 10th annual Helstonbury Festival, hosted once again by the Blue Anchor in Helston. The bands are booked, the T-shirts have been printed and excitement is mounting for this weekend of live music.

The entertainment will kick off on Friday night with “Kids Like to Rock”, a showcase purely dedicated to the up and coming local young talent from around Helston. Aged between 6 and 18, the youngsters, who are mentored by local music teacher Alan Rideout, will play a wide range of instruments and provide an eclectic mix of musical styles.

Helstonbury then starts up again on Saturday lunchtime with live music on the acoustic stage in the Beer Garden; all kinds of musical and singing styles will then rotate on the stage throughout the afternoon and evening.

At around midday, the first of the live bands will start to perform in the Skittle Alley which, for the purposes of Helstonbury has been named the Canon Stage (after a former landlord). Local bands will continue to play through until midnight and many of them come back year after year to perform free of charge to help the local charities that Helstonbury supports.

On Sunday there will be more acoustic performances in the garden and rock bands on the Canon Stage with close of play at around 11pm. 

Over forty bands are making an appearance this year including Bobby’s Helmet, Not The Beatles, The Boogaloo Dudes, Dizzy Lizzie and the Turton Sisters.
