It’s Holiday Season in Helston

It’s the end of July and it’s a Saturday. That means that the roads into Cornwall will once again be jam packed and the A30 is probably best avoided for the next few hours. Summertime is now in full swing and the holidaymakers are descending on the county in their thousands. We can expect the population of Helston and the surrounding areas to swell over the coming weeks as the tourists move in to their caravans, tents, B&Bs and holiday cottages. But where do the people of Helston go to get away from it all?

We’d love to hear what you’ve got planned for your summer getaway. But if you’ve yet to make your mind up it’s not too late. Perhaps you’d like to jet off to warmer climes, in which case Vacation World in Meneage Street may be able to help you out. With a range of last minute deals, some of which leaving from South West airports, they should be able to offer you a great price.

On the other hand, you might not want to shell out to go abroad, preferring instead to stay closer to home – and why not? We’re lucky enough to live in a part of the world that many people save up all year to come and visit for a just week or two. In that case maybe a Staycation is more your thing.

To holiday at home you could turn off the computers and TVs, hide the phone and relax. Instead of the weekly supermarket shop, buy yourself some tasty treats from places like Olivers, Quayside Fish or the Corner Deli. Then perhaps sit back in the garden (weather permitting!), read a good book or head off to one of the local attractions.

Or you could become a proper tourist - although without the slow driving and pulling over in totally inappropriate places - by throwing your tent in the back of the car and heading down to one of the many lovely campsites we have in our area such as Chycarne Holiday Park, which is in walking distance of Kennack Sands, or Namparra which is also close by. That way you can still get away but if you forget to pack your toothbrush you’re close enough to nip home and get it! Obviously as it’s peak season it’s worth checking availability before turning up at any of the local campsites though.

Let us know what you’re doing this summer – are you off to any far flung places or are you up to anything closer to home? Whatever it is, enjoy!
