THE SCHOOL was recently successful in bidding for £10,000 to fund a cycling scheme. The money has bought ten road cycles, including associated safety equipment, for students.

The selected students will use them to cycle to school and will benefit from cycle maintenance lessons and skills sessions in conjunction with Cycle Logic at Helston.

The plan is to develop a road team to raise the profile of cycling at Cape and to increase participation.

In the longer term there are discussions under way to look at the feasibility of a competitive cycle surface at Cape with a view to developing cycling talent at school and throughout the community.

This scheme will benefit students in the 14 to 19 age group and assist them in accessing school and other opportunities in addition to developing specific cycle skills.

Mr Denley, the deputy head said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for these youngsters.

Opportunity

“And as an avid cycling fan I am really pleased to see these students have the opportunity to use cycling as a means of getting to school.

“Hopefully they will pick up the bug and start a lifelong involvement with cycling. We are extremely grateful to the Cornwall Council Transportation Partnership for their generous grant.”
