Helston Sees First Winter Snowfall

If you were in any doubt as to whether winter had started, it’s been confirmed today. We’ve had our first snow flurry in Helston. Given snow in these parts is quite a rarity and if we do get it it’s usually around January or February time, today’s weather events seem to have taken many of us by surprise.
Already there have been reports of accidents on the roads of Cornwall caused by snowy and icy conditions. Earlier this morning the Redruth road was blocked for a time after a car overturned at Wendron.
Cornwall Council has already had its gritters out on the roads but it is worth baring in mind that 80% of our roads are not routinely treated and when freezing conditions or snow follows rain there may not be enough time to treat all the network before temperatures fall to zero. The snowfall in Helston this morning didn’t last all that long but this may not be the last we see of it. The Met Office is predicting further snowfall for parts of Cornwall tomorrow. Either way, perhaps now is a good time to nip out and check the anti-freeze and such like just in case!
Were you affected by this morning’s icy weather?

It seems everywhere but Falmouth has seen some snow this year. I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad thing though!

ReportI can't believe how cold it is for November. I know in other parts of the country it is always like this at this time of year, but snow in November is a bit extreme!
